Scratch at Portsoy Traditional Boat Festival

The last weekend in June and I trailed Scratch up to Portsoy on the northern Aberdeenshire coast with my father.??

Lots of great boats to look at – including the St Ayles Skiffs which were racing there, old fishing boats, and several Oughtred norse insipred boats. Having a beautiful boat of ones own from which to look at the other boats makes the event much more interesting.

The wind was pretty fresh at times and Scratch performed flawlessly under sail and oar – apart from reinforcing what I already knew: the sleeves on the oars were too thick making them stick in the rowlocks. This has now been sorted.

We'd never been to Portsoy Festival before, I can highly recommend it; we'll probably be going back next year.

Thanks to Chris Perkins for most of these photos (copyright, please respect) – more over at the Home Built Boat Rally.
